FARM NEWSLETTER – 27 FEB 2023

BUILDING AN ARC

I think I know how Noah felt building the arc.

It wasn’t raining while he was pounding nails and chinking the laps on this fantastically large vessel.  No, the rain would come later, after the arc was built and after all the animals were gathered up two by two.  But until then you got to know that poor Noah was the brunt of a lot of jokes in his neighborhood!  I know he had to question his own sanity from time to time – his faith tested by those jeering neighbors.  No lakes in the vicinity wouldn’t of helped either.

Our customers, and every person who has toured our farm, know that we have completely punched out of the global commodity market, and rely on biological inputs (microbes and livestock) instead of synthetic fertilizers.  We work to minimize energy consumption, and make a nice home for the wild things that share our fields.  This is the road less travelled, and it can be quite glorious. But when the two track you’re on is beating the snot out of your pick-up, and you are watching the world fly by on the adjacent interstate, well, doubts are likely to arise.

We’re not building an arc, by any means, on this farm.  But we are helping build a new food system.  One that someday, maybe, will be of great value to this valley.  We’ll know in time.

Today, I have 100 acres of pasture and not a blade of grass to eat.  Hay prices stratospheric due to regional drought, and too cold to cut back on feed.   Is this another test?

Regards,

Steve

Dear Herdshare Owners,

Just a few things:

I will not be at the Riverton or Lander Farmers Market this week.

For the Riverton folks please schedule a time with me to collect your order on Saturday the 4th (at Fremont Local Market) or Sunday the 5th in town.

For the Lander folks I will have someone deliver to the Lander farmers market from 1 to 3 pm at the VFW on Saturday the 4th

NOTE* We are now on Facebook!

Please like and follow us at Red Roof Meat Company!

Our farm has been very fortunate to attract a number of wonderful customers who share the same vision as us in terms of values…not simply value. We also recognize that this market relationship is not for everybody. If that’s the case with you, please let us know. • PA/sound system provided for voice and most acoustic electric string instruments with use of your own wireless instrument adaptor, with/without onboard electronics via an instrument cable or a provided mic setup - no personal amps allowed without pe-approval from the Jammerz!
  • A 'Jam Facilitator' volunteer (pls step fwd. if you want to be next!will handle the flow of the jam floor at each jam session - your full attention and cooperation with all eyes and ears on that person is greatly appreciated!
  • The soundboard/mixer is actively managed by a volunteer (pls feel free to learn and help!) throughout the entire jam session. Your cooperation and communication are a must with this person as well to best maximize your voice and or instrument quality when it is your turn to 'take a single song ride' in the jam rotation.
Recommended early sound system set-up time will start at 4:30PM Jam day for those who can be available  to lend a helping hand. And again at 5:30PM prior to the Jam to do pre-jam sound check of your instrument and claim your seating arrangement respectively.

Otherwise... come as you can, find a spot in the jam rotation, be patient for your late hook-up/sound check and pls don't disrupt the jam that will hopefully have already been be in progress by 6:30PM. Thanks!
